R. Giskard Reventlov was a robot designed by Han Fastolfe. He possesed the mental ability to control both people and robots. Though he was a tin-like robot, he was the favorite robot of Fastolfe's estranged daughter whos experiment gave Giskard his almost magical powers. He bestowed this ability to R. Daneel Olivaw shortly before his inability to accept the Zeroth Law of Robotics caused him to cease functioning.

                Daneel, hesitantly and slowly, put out his hand and
        Giskard looked at it uncertainly.  Then, very slowly, he put
        out his own hand.  The fingertips almost touched and then,
        little by little, each took the other's hand and clasped it -
        almost as though they were the friends they called each other.
