1x01+1x02 EMISSARY

In this, the two-hour pilot movie for the series, we are introduced to the characters who will become the permanent residents of Deep Space Nine. A description of each can be found in the introduction above.

This episode focuses mainly on the station itself and on Commander Sisko.

1x03 PAST PROLOGUE

A member of the Bajoran terrorist group, Kohn Ma, comes on board the space station and Major Kira's loyalties are divided between her old loyalties to the Kohn Ma and her new loyalties to Bajor and the Federation. Tana Loss has a plan to obtain a bomb to destroy the wormhole in the belief that if the wormhole is destroyed, neither the Cardassians or the Federation would be interested in Bajor or the station any longer.

1x04 A MAN ALONE

A man from Odo's past comes to the space station and is found murdered. Naturally, suspicion falls on the alien shapeshifter who had sent him to jail and was seen to have fought with him on the promenade. Sisko and his staff must find a way to clear Odo of Ibudon's murder. Meanwhile, Keiko, restless at having nothing to do on the station as a botanist, decides to open a school for the children living on the station.

1x05 BABEL

A mysterious illness which has the same symptoms as Aphasia, cripples the staff of the station. The staff race against time to find the cause of the sickness and a cure before people start to die.

1x06 CAPTIVE PURSUIT

A visitor to the station from the Gamma Quadrant turns out to be the prey in a strange form of hunt practiced by his people.

1x07 Q-LESS

A shuttlecraft on an exploratory mission in the Gamma Quadrant finds Vash alone on a planet and in need of help. They bring her back to the station along with her curios from archeological digs in the quadrant. Q pays a visit to the station to try and convince Vash to travel with him again as they did when they left the Enterprise together in the episode QPID. Vash has no plans to go with Q and there is some obvious enmity between them. Instead, she joins with Quark in a business venture to sell the items she has found in the Gamma Quadrant. Meanwhile, a strange energy drain befuddles the crew of the station and draws them inexorably closer to the worm hole.

1x08 DAX

The son of a woman from Dax's past as Kurzon Dax when he acted as ambassador to another planet, attempts to extradict her for the murder of his father and for treason. Dax refuses to defend herself in any way and the task of her defense befalls to Commander Sisko and Odo who must try to prove that Kurzon Dax (her old Trill identity) and Jadzia Dax (her current Trill identity) are not the same being.

1x09 THE PASSENGER

A criminal captured on his way to DS9 to steal a shipment of diridium dies in a fire aboard his ship. Or does he? His captor, Ty Kajada who's spent a large portion of her life tracking Vantika doesn't think so even though Dr. Bashir certifies him dead.

1x10 MOVE ALONG HOME

A new alien race from the Gamma Quadrant pays a visit to DS9 and catches Quark cheating at games. Their leader, Falow, forces Quark to play a game without knowing the rules... or the real players - Sisko, Kyra, Bashir, and Dax.

1x11 THE NAGUS

The Nagus, a leader of the Ferengis comes to DS9 to start up profitable enterprises in the Gamma Quadrant. But, he is ailing and cannot continue as Nagus and so selects Quark as his successor instead of others who consider themselves more worthy of the title.

1x12 VORTEX

A visitor to the station (Kroden) from the Gamma quadrant tries to rob Quark and twin Myridon's who are trying to fence a valuable item. The robbery attempt is foiled by Odo who takes Kroden prisoner but not before one of the Myridon's is killed. While in custody, Kroden tells Odo that he's encountered other changelings in the Gamma Quadrant and a strange necklace he wears may hold the key to Odo's past.

1x13 BATTLE LINES

Kai Opaka, makes a mysterious visit to the station and Commander Sisko, Major Kira and Dr. Bashir take her on a tour through the worm-hole. However, their ship is shot down by probes and crash-lands on a moon occupied by two groups of aliens engaged in an eternal war.

1x14 THE STORYTELLER

Two Bajoran factions in dispute over territory enlist Sisko's aid in negotiations. One faction, led by a inexperienced child named Varis, is holding lands claimed by the other faction, led by Wolban. The original boundary between the two is a river which had been diverted from its course by the Cardassians. Varis is befriended by Jake and Nog, who help her to find a compromise.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bashir and Chief O'Brien travel to Bajor to tend to an ailing leader of a village. The leader, known as The Sirah, is responsible for chasing away the Dal Mok that visits the village for 5 nights every year. The Dal Mok is a fearsome storm made up of unknown energy and The Sirah (or Storyteller) is the only one who can chase it away. When the Sirah dies of old age, he chooses O'Brien as his successor.

1x15 PROGRESS

On a mission to evacuate a Bajoran moon, Kira has to choose between her duty and her affection for a crusty old colonist who refuses to leave.

1x16 IF WISHES WERE HORSES

The imaginations of the inhabitants and guests of Deep Space 9 run wild, much to the detriment of the station.

1x17 THE FORSAKEN

A mysterious probe from the Gamma quadrant causes problems for the inhabitants of Deep Space Nine. Meanwhile, Lwaxana Troi causes problems for Odo because he recovered a piece jewelry of hers that had been stolen in Quark's.

1x18 DRAMATIS PERSONAE

A Klingon ship returning from the wormhole explodes but not before the crew of the station are able to transport the captain to the station. The captain dies almost immediately, only able to tell them one word "Victory". After his death, all of the inhabitants, except Odo begin to behave... differently.

1x19 DUET

A Cardassian in need of medical help arrives at the station and is mistaken for a war criminal who commanded a mining camp where many Bajorans were forced to work for the Cardassians and where many of them were killed.

In a wonderful parallel to our society, a Bajoran religious leader (Vedek Winn), objects to the things Keiko is teaching in her school on board the space station. In particular, she objects to Keiko not teaching Bajoran religion. Vedek's Winn's complaint, and the reaction of Bajorans on the station, sets Bajor against the Federation and threatens to destroy everything that Commander Sisko and the Federation have done to establish an alliance.
